Project of the Month - May 2010

Million The RobotThe Project of the Month for May 2010 is our brand new cross stitch kit Million The Robot.

Million is stitched on 14ct Aida cloth, and included in the kit are all the fabric, threads, instructions and needle you'll need.  Once completed he stands around 28cm (11") tall, and sufficient fabric has been included to make him suitable for framing.

(If you're thinking he might get lonely, Million also has a friend called Max!)

We Have A Winner!

Congratulations to Kristin of South Hurstville who was our lucky 10,000th internet customer!  Kristin received her order for free, with our gratitude.

Project of the Month – April 2010

POM April 2010

This fashionable scarf will be the perfect addition to any outfit.  So simple to make - even knitter's with only the basic skills will be able to whip one up.  Requires only 3 balls of Morris Quartet 8ply.

Wrapped In Autumn - Autumn fashion windows

Over the past few months our in house pattern designers have been thinking about Autumn... even while Sydney sweltered in the last blast of Summer heat!  Just as the deadline for dressing our Autumn windows arrived, the weather decided to change also and turned towards chilly and wet.

Taking our inspiration from the idea of rainy nights in the city, we've created a range of five wraps and cowls in knitting and crochet.  The designs were also inspired by some of the latest fashion trends appearing on the catwalks; texture, volume and versatile pieces that can be worn a number of ways as hoods & cowls.

The fair isle patterned Addison neckwarmer is a circular piece that can be draped or pinned a number of ways.  Our Moscow Crochet Wrap is textured and tasselled, and in Eki Riva 14ply alpaca would ward off even the chilliest of days.  The unisex textured Enmore cowl is knitted flat, but buttons closed to form a circular neckwarmer that can be draped a variety of ways.  Alexandria is a stunning circular cowl knitted in horizontal bands of 2ply and 8ply Morris Empire 100% merino, which drapes beautifully and can be worn either twisted to hug the neck or draped artfully over the shoulders.  Finally the Logan oversized ribbed cowl is a voluminous piece knitted in 2 strands of Morris Empire 8ply 100% merino wool, which can be worn as a hood or twisted to form a striking chunky neckwarmer.

If you're stopping by also have a look at our other smaller window, where we are featuring a new range of yarns from Katia of Spain. In rich Autumn tones and shimmering metallics they're ideal for spicing up your Autumn and Winter wardrobe.

Morris & Sons is coming to a craft fair near you.

Project of the Month – January 2010

Jordana Paige BagsIt's time to get our craft stashes organised, so we can start the New Year in an orderly manner - and you never know - you may even re-discover an unfinished project or two!

So we've put together a collection of products to help you organise your stash:
The Clover Knitting Needle Tube Case is indispensable for keeping your knitting needles in order.
And if you have trouble keeping your pairs of knitting needles together then the Clover Large Coil Knitting Needle Holders are a nifty gadget, along with the cute Clover DPN Holders (Small) to keep your sets of double-pointed needles in good order.
For everyone addicted to the Knit Pro range of interchangeable tips and cables - grab some of their specially designed pockets to tidy up your collection.

For cross-stitchers - it's difficult to go past the DMC Gold Concept organising system. The little Stitch Bows are ingeniously designed so you can pop your skein of stranded cotton around them (no more winding the cotton around those little cardboard bobbins!), and then the Stitch Bow slides into Sleeve so you can find the colour you are looking for at a glance. The Lo-Ran system is also great for pre-cut embroidery and needlepoint threads of all kinds.

And of course, you can't go past the Jordana Paige bags for carrying your projects or a cute Sewing Basket for keeping all of your sewing essentials tidy while at home.

POM November

If you haven't already started making gifts for Christmas - now's the time to get stitching! Teresa in our Sydney store is busy stitching these Mill Hill beaded Santa Ornaments to give to her family & friends.  We love the traditional styling of these Santas, and the beads and perforated paper make them even more interesting to stitch.  Simply finish your stitching and then trim around the edges - no fussy finishing to do.
